Our Russian Language programming is run by Rabbi Ilana Baird. Rabbi Ilana has served communities in Russia, Germany, Israel, and the United States.  She founded a liberal synagogue in Haifa and is a graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Israeli Rabbinical Seminary program. You can reach her at RabbiIlana@apjcc.org.

HEDER, for children 4-9 years old
HEDER - (Hebrew Educational Extracurricular program for Russian-speaking kids) is a program designed
to acquaint your children with the Jewish Culture and the Hebrew Language in an engaging learn-through-play
format. The program is intended for children aged 4 -9 (split into three age groups 4-5, 6-7 and 8-9) and will be
conducted in Russian. Each meeting will be broken down into sections. We welcome, and encourage, parents to
volunteer.  Additionally, as part of our program, we will celebrate Shabbat and Holidays together, inviting the
community to join us in the festivities.

Club Noar --our youth club for children ages 10 to 12.
Children from Russian-speaking Jewish families will get together and will have interesting discussions, debates, various projects and lots of fun. The program is held in English. The program is led by Rabbi Ilana Baird and Yulianna Lyanskaya.
Please email Yulianna, Russian Program Administrator, at yulianna@apjcc.org to reserve your child(ren) a spot.  You may also fill out the application here.  By becoming HEDER and Club Noar members, you will have discounted rates to our family events: Holiday Celebrations, Family Camps and Activities, and Silicon Valley Jewish Music Festival.

Ian Maksin: Album Release Concert: ZARIA
where the Earth ends and music begins... Sephardic, Persian, Balkan, Russian, French songs and much more!

ZARIA: Internationally known for his unique ability to blend different genres and styles, cellist, composer and vocalist Ian Maksin is taking his concept to yet a new orbit with the release of his album “Zaria”. The album is an ultimately eclectic mix of traditional music from different corners of the world from Persia to Macedonia and from Armenia to Belarus, both instrumental and vocal (Maksin is singing in six languages on the album), also his own versions of Jacques Brel’s iconic “Amsterdam” and Bill Wither’s classic “Ain’t No Sunshine”.

Also the album features several of Maksin's new original instrumental compositions infused with Balkan rhythms, flamenco arabe, pagan Slavic chants, Mississippi blues, Argentine milonga and Sephardic music. Minimalistically orchestrated with percussion, acoustic bass and occasional cameos by the middle Eastern string instrument oud, the album’s sound is blended together by the cello as a leading common element throughout.
