Lunch and Learn: The JCC's Jewish value of the month

The APJCC is undertaking an exploration of the values that underlie our community and inform our behavior. You are invited to a monthly series of lunch and learns on Fridays at noon to examine how these values are rooted in Jewish sources, what we already do to put these values into action, and what more we can do to enact them. 

No need to register in advance. Free, drop in, and open to all. Bring your lunch.

Pre-Shabbat Yoga

A refreshing mix of Jewish learning with guided meditation, breath work and asana practice. With Rabbi Laurie Matzkin. Suitable for all fitness levels. Free for Full Center Members. Social Members and non-members, please purchase a fitness day pass at the Service Desk in the JCC lobby. Class is held in Studio B on the second floor of the JCC.

Monthly Moms' Circle

Would you like to bring more intentionality to the way you experience time? Join Rabbi Laurie Matzkin, experienced educator and APJCC Preschool parent, for an exploration of the themes of the Jewish months and how their unique energies can help focus our personal growth throughout the year. This framework for reflection and mindfulness is organized around the Jewish calendar but applies to parents of all faiths.
 
This group meets monthly on the Monday after Rosh Hodesh (the celebration of the new Jewish month) and will integrate text study, self-reflection and journaling, and real life themes relevant to mothers of all ages and stages. 8:40-9:00am informal coffee and chatting, followed by a more focused program 9:00-10:00am.

Moms' Circle is in held in Club J, on the school side of the JCC building. Coffee and bagels provided.

Talmud Circle

Introduction to Judaism

An overview of the Jewish life-cycle, holidays, and ritual. During the course of the year, students will gain an understanding of Jewish belief, history and calendar and gain exposure to important Jewish books including the Hebrew Bible and the Talmud. Each session includes thirty minutes of Hebrew instruction. Sessions will rotate among local synagogues and the APJCC based on which rabbi is teaching. Please note that the class location rotates. Rabbi Joey Felsen of the Jewish Study Network guides you through the fundamental works of Maimonides, Luzzato, and other classic commentators. No Hebrew necessary. This is a free, drop-in class. No need to register.

Kaplan Roundtable

Come join Rabbi Ilana Baird for events and classes offered in Russian. Rabbi Baird has served communities in Russia, Germany, Israel and the United States. She founded a liberal synagogue in Haifa and is a graduate of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Israeli Rabbinical Seminary program.
