Sabra 2015

Sabra is for campers who will be entering 1st or 2nd grade in the fall.

First and second graders will have a blast participating in activities including Arts & Crafts, Nature, Israeli Culture, Drama, Music, Sports, Cooking, and Field Trips. Campers will swim in the APJCC’s heated pool each day they are on site, and instructional swim is provided by
APJCC swim instructors twice per week. Lifeguards are always on duty.

Themed Activities

We have plenty of extraordinary special events each session.  Each Thursday will be a dress-up day, for campers and staff to dress up in wacky costumes to match the weekly theme and celebrate a day of fun-filled activities such as carnival games, challenge activities, water games in the pool, slip n' slides, and more.

We have a different theme each week:

  • Session 1: Shalomstock  |  Ooey Gooey
  • Session 2: Globe Trotters  |  Pirate
  • Session 3: Maccabi Sports  |  Wet & Wild
  • Session 4: Welcome to the Jungle  |  Adventureland

Field Trips

Sabra Campers will go on one field trip each session.  Field trips are based on the weekly theme and offer  campers new experiences away from the regular camp setting.

Here's the field trip schedule for summer 2015. All field trips are on Wednesdays.

  • 6/17-Chabot Science Center
  • 7/1-Tech Museum
  • 7/15-Golfland
  • 7/29-Oakland Zoo

Each day campers will have the opportunity to experience unique enrichment activities led by our on- staff specialists. Camp Shalom is proud to offer specialist-led programming in Science and Nature (Teva Time), Arts and Culture, and Sports. Specialists are trained in their field of expertise and offer campers the chance to learn a new skill through experiential, hands-on learning techniques.

Campers swim for one hour each day they are onsite.  Each camper has certified swim instruction two days a week, and recreational swim 3 days a week. Campers are closely monitored during swim times by camp staff and lifeguards. Certified lifeguards, assigned specifically to Camp Shalom, are on duty at all times and camp staff will be in the pool with campers during both recreation and lesson swim. Safety is our top priority at the pool.
